About Me
My name is Alan Maughan. I am an experienced salmon fisherman, guide and A.A.P.G.A.I. qualified fly casting and game angling instructor.
I live and teach on the banks of the River Tyne at Wylam, 13 miles West of Newcastle, I am passionate about helping others to improve their casting and fishing techniques. I have a very broad and extensive knowledge and understanding of modern fly-casting and salmon fishing with regard to both the modern day tackle and fishing techniques.
Things move on in life at a rapid pace and that too can be said for salmon fishing and in particular Spey casting. Through this website and my personal tuition I hope to be able to bring clients up to speed with what is happening today in the world of "Modern Spey Casting".
For client’s security and peace of mind I have full and comprehensive insurance cover both in the UK and abroad. I have been trained in First Aid and child protection awareness, I have also been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), this allows me to work with both children and vulnerable adults.
I pride myself in offering clients of all abilities and age groups an interesting and informative day of first class tuition set in beautiful surroundings. I run residential spey casting and salmon fishing courses on various rivers around the UK and I also host trips to various prime locations both at home and abroad.
